A name change cannot make a system smarter, but it can say what its company wants people to call it. Elon Musk has confirmed that SpaceXAI is set to become SpaceXSI, replacing “Artificial Intelligence” with “Super Intelligence.”
Why the letters are changing
Musk agreed to a suggestion to rename the unit SpaceXSI. He has previously supported “Super Intelligence” as a more accurate term for modern systems.
The announcement concerns a name, not a separately described product or model. For now, the change is about vocabulary, though vocabulary is often where companies make their ambitions easiest to see.
The name’s context
SpaceXAI began using its name after SpaceX acquired xAI in 2026. The proposed SpaceXSI label also matches an order from Donald Trump’s administration calling for “Super Intelligence” to be used instead of “AI” in federal contexts.
That gives the phrase two settings, company branding and federal terminology. It does not, by itself, establish a technical standard or tell us what capabilities any system has. The letters are changing. The burden of proving what they mean remains elsewhere.
